Revamped, redesigned and with a broadened artistic direction, the Caribbean’s premier cultural event — the Saint Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival — will attract thousands to Simply Beautiful Saint Lucia. Cultural enthusiasts, festival lovers and music aficionados will be wooed by over 50 world-acclaimed entertainers and artisans over the 11-day festival, which runs April 29 to May 08, 2016.
Performances will be set against the iconic and historic Pigeon Island National Landmark backdrop, along with other scenic vistas across Saint Lucia, showcasing an innovative infusion of Music and Arts designed to highlight the island’s rich historic and cultural legacy.
This year’s Silver Jubilee Saint Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival (SLJAF) takes a journey back in time to showcase again some of the event’s most popular acts at locations across our beautiful island. The Festival gets off to a spirited start on April 29 and continues for 10 days through a busy line-up of community events featuring local and regional acts, all the way to the international headliners of the final three days from May 6 to 8, including nostalgic favourites like Kool & The Gang and Air Supply, singer/songwriter Shaggy, zouk sensation Kazzav’ and Latin idol Marc Anthony. Jazz fans can look forward to performances by Chris Standring, Joey Alexander and Donald Harrison, while Saint Lucia’s Grammy judge and internationally renowned jazz guitarist, Ronald ‘Boo’ Hinkson takes to the stage on May 8th.
This year’s Arts element of the Festival includes a performance of Nobel Laureate Derek Walcott’s epic play, Omeros, by Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre on May 3rd, and the sizzling runway fashion show, Saint Lucia Hot Couture on May 4th, along with art exhibitions, dance and drama, and a special marketplace where visitors can purchase authentic pieces from local artists and manufacturers.
